NFL News: Sean Payton not happy after winning for the preseason: ‘I am pissed off’

The Denver Broncos won a 30-9 victory over San Francisco 49ers in their preseason opener on Saturday. The final score is a positive result on paper, but the team has enough to work on in the coming weeks.

“[I]T was only average to below the average, “said Broncos coach Sean Payton about the performance of the team starters.

The attack of the first team managed only one field goal on three drives. The defense of the first team enabled the Niners to march 71 Yards away the field during the opening ride of the game for a touchdown.

“Not just the game, but going back to the exercise we recently had, I thought we started slowly, both first units, and that was disappointing,” Payton said. “There will be a handful of things that we look at there. I think we were attacking 0-4 in third place and started to pick things up [later]. I thought Jarrett [Stidham] Did it do well.

“I thought defensively, we ended up with four take -away restaurants and too many punishments to my taste. … there were a number of things we should improve, such as missing some protections.

Stidham was a bright spot, as Payton said. Denver’s second team Quarterback went 14-of-15 for 136 Yards with two touchdowns. The Back -Up defenders also made plays with four take -away restaurants and two bags. Payton, however, did not like the 11 penalties for 87 Yards.

“We have to clean that up,” said Payton. “There were just a few things that even before I even set up the tape that we should be prepared to clean up and then some things that were part of winning a game.”

It is clear that Payton has a lot that he wants to clean up, and not just with the players.

“There are some mistakes that will happen,” said Payton. “But it’s the pre-snap, it’s the illegal man Downfield. There is a handful of these things that need to be cleaned up, like tomorrow. I think it’s important when we come to work tomorrow. It’s not just the players. This is the first road trip for us. Those corrections are important.”

The Payton team gets the chance to bounce back when the Broncos will organize the Arizona Cardinals next Saturday (view the full pre -season schedule).
